What we have for you today is really mesmerizing and unusual, and has been inspired by the phantasmagoric landscapes of Iceland.
London studio Klaus Haapaniemi & Co has designed a hand-engraved sofa, woven tapestry and circular carpet inspired by Iceland. The pieces feature a print called Black Lake, which Haapaniemi made after hearing the Icelandic singer Björk’s description of these lava areas close to her house.
The bespoke sofa with an angular wood frame features subtle hand engravings on its elbows, back and feet, while chunky cushions are upholstered using the Black Lake print. The woven tapestry is intended to be applied as long rug that is draped over the sofa. Inspired by the dark, steaming lake described by Björk, the circular carpet is decorated with unusual foliage, water lilies and mysterious lava stones.
The collection is created specifically for Björk’s remote summer house and will be sent for her but we expect to see a commercial version of it available on the market, too.
